February 22, 2023 — The 26th annual charity cup hockey game, “Battle of the Badges”, will take place on Saturday, March 4th at Ebersole Ice Rink in White Plains with the White Plains Firefighters facing off against the White Plains PBA at 6 p.m. The event will include raffle and auction prizes such as autographed sports memorabilia, Yankee Stadium tours, vacation packages, toys, bikes, sporting equipment and more. A Shoot the Puck contest will be held on the ice, and concessions will be available.
All proceeds for the event benefit Ronald McDonald House of the Greater Hudson Valley (RMHGHV). The House serves as a home-away-from-home for families of children in need of critical care. Located in Valhalla, just steps away from Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital at Westchester Medical Center, the 12-bedroom House keeps families together and close to the care and resources they need during their child’s medical treatment.
The Dennett family of Mount Kisco, who stayed with RMHGHV when their son James was being treated at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, will officially kick off the event and drop the puck to start the “Battle of the Badges.” James’ mom, Christine, began volunteering at RMHGHV in early 2015 and never imagined she would become a guest family a year and half later and need the support of RMHGHV as a mom with a child in the hospital. When James was born a year later and became critically ill at just three days old he was transferred via ambulance to the Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. “Not wanting to leave the hospital campus, I showed up on the doorstep of the House and they welcomed me with loving open arms.” said Dennett. “The ambulance crew and hospital staff saved James’s life and RMHGHV saved mine. I stayed only a few nights during James’s 21 day stay in the NICU but I am eternally grateful.” Today James is a thriving, active, inquisitive six year old boy who skates, wrestles, swims and plays hockey. He loves his family, science and YouTube and has spent time volunteering at the House and their events.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at bit.ly/2023BOTB and will be available at the door. For more information on the “Battle of the Badges” visit www.rmhghv.org.
